The World Blockchain Hackathon was held for two days from the 6th to the 7th of October, 2018 at San Francisco, USA. This hackathon event attracted developers from across the globe to develop blockchain-based products that will provide viable solutions for both blockchain and real world problems.
The event also provided an opportunity for blockchain industry experts to educate, inform and train developers. During the hackathon, developers were expected to develop blockchain-based products within a duration not exceeding three (3) days.
There were a total of four workshops held in the two days of the event. These workshops provided attendees with a crash course in blockchain development. As mentioned earlier, leading blockchain experts were on hand to provide mentorship to developers on the operations of the blockchain industry. Software developers as well as experts in business, product management and UX/UI designing numbering over 250 were present at the hackathon.
At the World Blockchain Hackathon developers were rewarded with more than $20,000 USD in prizes. There were also different categories of sponsorship of the hackathon event which had Ontology as a Bronze sponsor along with Aikon. The other categories of sponsorship included; the Prize Sponsorship by DRAPER University and the Silver Sponsorship by QuarkChain.
Ontology recently announced that they would be organising a marathon of hackathon events that will commence from November of this year and extend into 2019. What is interesting to note is that the hackathons are billed to hold in different parts of the world. This will give Ontology an opportunity of informing, educating and interacting with developers and blockchain enthusiasts from around the world.
There will be prizes awarded to the best three blockchain software developer teams at each of the organised hackathons. The three best teams of each hackathon will qualify for a grand final hackathon event where they can stand the chance of winning a star prize of $50,000 USD paid out in Ontology tokens (ONT). However, for those teams that will not make it to the grand final, Ontology will reward them with decent prizes for their contributions.
Ontology will organise hackathon stops in key Asian countries. There will be hackathon stops in South Korea (Seoul), Japan (Tokyo) and China (Shanghai and Beijing) to mention but a few.
If you are interested in registering for the Seoul Hackathon, you can do so right here. You can also sign up for the Tokyo Hackathon by clicking on this link, but it is advisable that you acquaint yourself with Ontology blockchain technology by checking out their documentation right here.
Ontology also encourages developers to join their Discord Community where they can have a one-on-one interaction with the Ontology team as well as other developers in the Discord community. If you are not a developer, you can attend the various meetups that Ontology will organise at the venues of the hackathon events. According to Ontology, these meetups would typically be held in the afternoon of day two of the hackathon events. Everyone is therefore invited to attend the meetups regardless of their technical abilities.
